When I was twelve years old, I read a book called Dibs in Search of Self by Virginia Axline. It was about a mute little boy who had a play therapist that helped him gain the ability to speak. It was because of the inspiring story that I knew this was what I wanted to do. For my schooling, I went to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, for my undergraduate degree in Psychology. I went on to graduate from the University of Northern Colorado Greeley with a master’s degree, to become a psychotherapist with a special emphasis on Play Therapy and Marriage & Family Counseling. I started my work in 1990.
This year is my 30th year as a psychotherapist. I am a clinical member of the Association of Play Therapy. I became accredited as a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. A portion of my practice is teaching therapists to become play therapists. I am a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, which means I am accredited to provide couples counseling and family therapy. I am a member of the Americans of Counseling Association. I am also licensed by the State of Montana as a Professional Counselor and a Marriage and Family Therapist.
